Homeless Emergency Project

Video: Help Bring Them All The Way Home!

PGA Champions Tour will bring A-list celebrities and pro golfers to the Bay area in April - and some much needed support for our returning Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans!  Encompass Insurance is the proud title sponsor of the Champions Tour Celebrity Pro-Am Event. And, because of its innovative Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) treatment program, the PGA  and Encompass Insurance have chosen the heroic Homeless Emergency Project (HEP) in Pinellas County to share in the proceeds from this year's tournament.

The Homeless Emergency Project is the only social service agency of its type in the Tampa Bay area which offers the full continuum of shelter care for the entire homeless population. HEP operates a 354-bed facility where emergency and transitional housing is provided for the temporarily homeless as well as permanent supportive housing for mentally disabled individuals, families with children, and Veterans (including those with mental and/or physical disabilities). With donations from the PGA and Encompass Insurance, as well as their sponsors, HEP will expand its PTSD treatment program with the completion of a 32-unit, single occupancy apartment complex and activities center dedicated to provide housing and services for men and women returning home from the current wars. HEP will also be able to provide more counseling time for vets with PTSD treatment specialists.

The prestigious PGA Champions Tour/Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay is a star- studded event that begins Monday, April 9th and ends on Sunday evening April 15th at TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, Florida. Pro golfers from around the country will converge on Tampa Bay to compete for a share of the $1,600,000.00 purse.

Let's bring our veterans all the way home!

ABOUT THE HOMELESS EMERGENCY PROJECT (HEP)
The Homeless Emergency Project is the only social service agency of its type in the Tampa Bay area which offers the full continuum of shelter care for the entire homeless population.

Through the provision of emergency, transitional and permanent supportive housing, HEP provides lasting solutions to ending homelessness in our community. As part of our mission to help the homeless, HEP operates a 354-bed facility where emergency and transitional housing is provided for the temporarily homeless as well as permanent supportive housing for mentally disabled individuals, families with children, and Veterans (including those with mental and/or physical disabilities). In 2012, HEP will complete construction of a 32-unit, single occupancy apartment complex and activities center dedicated to provide housing and services for men and women returning home from the current wars. To date, HEP has raised one-third of the projected $3.5 million needed for the project.

We provide emergency, transitional, and permanent supportive housing for men, women, children, and Veterans, including those with mental and/or physical disabilities. HEP hires case managers specifically to provide various services, including substance and alcohol treatment, employment, mental health counseling, and public benefits access.

Homelessness, by itself, is not the problem, but rather, is a result or symptom of other underlying lying issues, including untreated mental illness and substance abuse disorders, economic hardship, and a variety of other infirmities.

HEP's goal is to end the cycle of homelessness and be the last homeless shelter an individual or family ever has to access.  Our goal is to successfully discharge 100% of our guests to independent living and self-sufficiency. Our facility is set-up to accomplish that goal.

Our latest project:
1.       Veterans Housing
a.       32 one-bedroom, single occupancy unit designed for men and women returning home from the current wars
b.      Activities Center -  technology room, meeting space, exercise area
c.       Along with safe and secure housing, one-on-one case management, substance abuse and mental health counseling, basic physical health, transportation, employment assistance.
d.      HEP currently assists 115 Veterans; throughout history, we have been helping former servicemen and women.
