It's one of the most deadliest forms of skin cancer and also the most preventable, yet a new study reveals that Melanoma cases are rising among young people.
 
Celebrated Dermatologist, Dr. Gervaise Gerstner has personally been diagnosed with Melanoma, twice - and has survived both cases because of early detection and she is on hand with the latest news and advice to fight this all too common disease. 
 

FAST FACTS:
- Melanoma will account for more than 75,000 cases of skin cancer in 2012 and almost 9,000 of the nearly 12,000 skin cancer deaths each year

-Over a lifetime, melanoma risk is still higher among men than women, and most melanomas are diagnosed in white men over age 50

Dr. Gervaise Gerstner

Gervaise Gerstner is a board-certified Manhattan dermatologist who has been practicing in New York for over 12 years.  She serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center where she volunteers in clinical and academic settings.  An associate member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatologic Surgeons, Dr. Gerstner is also an active member of the Dermatology Foundation and the Skin Cancer Foundation. In addition to having served as the editor for the prestigious Clinics in Dermatology, she is currently on the editorial staff for the Mt. Sinai dermatology newsletter. Aside from her work within her practice and the hospital, Dr. Gerstner has also done research on a wide range of topics from chemical peels to melanoma and has been published in several top dermatologic journals.
