"Saving the Girl Next Door"

Video: Help stop the exploitation!

Family Resources, PACE Center for Girls and Guardian ad Litem Foundation of Tampa Bay have planned a luncheon event which we hope will draw attention to the needs of young women in our community who are at risk of exploitation and abuse by being forced into domestic minor sex trafficking. We also hope that this luncheon will raise funds to benefit local charities whose mission is to serve and empower young women to find their true potential through mentoring, counseling and to experience positive role models in their lives.  The selected date for the event is October 18th at the Feather Sound Country Club in Clearwater.

Saving the Girl Next Door luncheon will be forum for a panel of experts in the field to speak on the issues that lead these young women into the negative situations that cause so much destruction in their lives.  As part of our panel of experts, we are fortunate to have as our Featured Panelist Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor.  Chief Castor will address the impact upon law enforcement and the lives of these young women as they battle a system which designates them as criminals rather than victims.  Judge Irene Sullivan, ret., with her outstanding contributions as a Unified Court Judge dealing with issues of delinquency, dependency and truancy, will speak to the diverse needs of young women and the serious consequences that occur every day in their lives if they stray into dangerous territory. Professor Judith A. Scully, Stetson University College of Law will address the legal issues arising from the prosecution of the victims of this exploitation.  Finally, Jane L. Harper, President and CEO of Family Resources will discuss effective intervention and prevention programs in our area.    Ms. Harper has been an advocate for children, teens and families on a local, State and National levels for a number of years.

Our topic speaks to every parent, to every individual who champions our cherished way of life and our family values. In her bestselling book, Raised by The Courts Irene Sullivan, asks the question, "Could this happen to your daughter?" Our panel of experts will provide analyses and solutions.
