Individuals who commute by public transportation reduce their carbon emissions by 20 pounds per day, or 4,800 pounds per year, which equals more carbon savings than weatherizing a home, converting to fluorescent bulbs and replacing an old refrigerator, combined.**
That's why HART is offering Ride Free with a Friend on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22. Go green and save green with HART!

At HART, Every Day is Earth Day!
HART is doing its part to help the environment. From recycling programs to EPA-certified low emission vehicles to bus shelters lit by solar power, and much more -- HART is always eco-friendly. Future green plans are also underway. The HART operations facility is undergoing a renovation and will meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. This project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2012 and the LEED design will save HART an estimated 30 percent in utilities annually. In addition, thanks to a federal grant that HART received recently to build a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station, HART will transition its entire fleet of more than 200 vehicles to CNG engines. Natural gas is a clear, odorless and non-corrosive gaseous mixture of hydro-carbons, and shows an average reduction in ozone-forming emissions of 80 percent compared to gasoline vehicles.
