With a towering movie screen above the orchestra, the extraordinary power and mystery of the sea almost spill into the audience. Based on the acclaimed BBC Television series, The Blue Planet, audiences are invited to experience the magical world of some of the ocean?s most fascinating creatures in the concert hall accompanied by George Fenton?s glorious multi-award winning score performed live by The Florida Orchestra. One concert only at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts - Carol Morsani Hall in Tampa. Sponsored by The Florida Aquarium.

The Blue Planet Live, based on the extraordinary BBC television series, provides a theatrical experience which involves sharing the incredible images of our planet?s deep ocean creatures in a way that could not be communicated via the television. Through the use of the most powerful emotional tool of all ? live music ? audiences will feel the oceans come alive in wide-eyed wonder. On a massive screen suspended above the orchestra, the audience is invited to submerge itself in this artistic collaboration of cutting-edge underwater photography and George Fenton?s spectacular score ebbing and flowing with emotions. In a phrase, it comes as close as you can to ?being there? yourself.

With a towering movie screen and multiple projectors, one experiences an awe-inspiring world of underwater life from spectacular global locations, including the Galapagos Islands, Cape of South Africa, Brazil, Australia, Alaska, Antarctica, Vancouver Island, the Bahamas, Florida and Mexico. Each of the oceans? habitats is completely different, and the composer has created unique music to capture their individual moods.

Pops in the Park Concerts: Safety Harbor Resort & Spa ?

Enjoy Mother?s Day with a Pops in the Park Concerts under the stars with The Florida Orchestra. Guest Conductor Stuart Chafetz is on the podium for a program of fun and familiar classical and pops favorites by Rossini, Brahms, John Williams, John Philips Sousa, Copland, Meredith Willson and Johann Strauss, Jr. The concerts also feature a patriotic sing-along and the evening will end with Tchaikovsky?s beloved 1812 Overture. Attendees are invited to make canned food donations to Tampa Bay Harvest?s food bank services. Entrance fee is $2.00 per adult and $1.00 per child, which will benefit The Safety Harbor Neighborhood Family Center who assists families in need in Safety Harbor, Oldsmar and Eastern Clearwater.

Masterworks: Ginastera?s Harp Concerto

Principal Harpist Anna Kate Mackle performs Argentine composer Alberto Ginastera?s virtuosic and rhythmically energetic Harp Concerto?on a program with Golijov?s Last Round, a homage to tango master Astor Piazzolla, Wagner?s tender and eloquent Siegfried Idyll and Beethoven?s sunny Symphony No. 1. Grant Llewellyn conducts this program.

Coffee Concerts: Wonderful Waltzes

Taking place in a relaxed setting with a casual format, the conductor talks to the audience about the music and the composers during the performances. Prior to all concerts, complimentary coffee and donuts are served in the lobby of the hall, and pre-concert talks by the conductor and various orchestra musicians are offered in the concert hall one hour before the 11 a.m. curtain time.

Six of the Coffee Concerts will be led by Coffee Series Conductor Alastair Willis, whose conducting talents regularly place him in front of such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Chicago Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Oregon Symphony and San Diego Symphony, among others. He has also occupied a variety of conducting posts, including resident conductor of the Seattle Symphony, assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops orchestras and music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Raymond James Pops: Classic James Bond:

It?s a night of ?symphonic espionage? reliving the thrills, the spills and the ever-so-cool chills of 007??Bond, James Bond?? with hits from Goldfinger, From Russia with Love, Thunderball, Casino Royale, Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die and other films. This concert features vocalist Mary Carewe with renowned composer and conductor Carl Davis on the podium.

Masterworks: Gunther Herbig Conducts Schubert & Brahms

For the season finale, internationally renowned conductor Gunther Herbig opens the evening with Schubert?s beautifully buoyant and joyful Symphony No. 5, chock full of wonderful melodies. It is paired with Brahms? Symphony No. 2 with its idyllic pastoral mood and lyrical themes that transform into a spirited and fiery conclusion.
